R-CTS4466 presence in the Corca Laidhe region of influence
The movement of R-CTS4466 in Counties Cork and Kerry - prime Corca Laidhe territory - was very much driven by the rise and spread of some Eoghanacht families and later the Ui Fidgenti, coming out of north Munster. The modal haplotype on STR markers closely linked with R-CTS4466 was at one time called "South Irish."
But was there a presence in Munster prior to the ascent of the Eoghanachts? And was R-CTS4466 entirely confined to southern Ireland? Human remains with the presence of the parent SNP, R-FGC11134, have been found considerably further north.
We are learning more about the role of R-CTS4466 in the settlement of southern Ireland.
The presence of A88 > Z16259 in the study could be an indicator of Eoghanacht or Ui Fidgenti origin.
The A956 COLLINS branch currently does not have membership in the Corca Laidhe study, but has a decent presence in the pertinent surname project. Those men have Cork ancestry overlaid in much of the same area as the R-FGC4166 COLLINS men.
