Region of Influence SNP Distribution Codes

SNP CODECODE DESCRIPTION
sx SNP seems largely, almost exclusively, or exclusively associated with a particular surname
sb SNP is downstream of a parent haplogroup broadly spread in Ireland or shows good concentrations in wide areas and is probably associated with multiple surnames
sr SNP haplogroup is less common / uncommon / rare in Ireland; may be a recent discovery; anticipating more occurrences

Two groups seem to be exclusive to the Corca Laidhe territory (discounting relatively recent migrations for better work opportunities and greener pastures).

The first is the Driscolls under I-A13664. A19162, Y112683, BY54260 and BY37208 are all downstream. The parent haplogroup I2a may have inhabited Europe before R1b spread from the east and came to prevail. The Driscolls who actually ruled the Corca Laidhe probably did NOT emerge from I2a. Rather, the I2a men may have been ruled by Driscolls and took the Driscoll name.

The second group is the Collinses downstream of R-U152. This haplogroup may have come from Central Europe. Their defining mutation is FGC4166. Downstream of that is BY129137. Did the ancestors of these Collinses come to Ireland to mine copper and other precious metals?

These two groups are worth mentioning because there are enough of them in their respective surname projects to draw attention. In the case of the Driscolls, I2a project members comprise most of the project. There are dozens of them. In the case of the Collinses, there are over a dozen FGC4166 members.

You will see these groups marked sr sx below.
